Jesus Christ


FOUNDATION SCRIPTURES: Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 61:1-3



INTRODUCTION:
This lesson we will look at Jesus Christ: His purpose in coming! What he did for us in salvation and what he is doing now, for each one of us.


WORD MEANING (JESUS - means Saviour) (Christ - means the anointed one)


1) HIS PURPOSE
i) Genesis 3:14-15. When Adam obeyed the devil and sinned. God had a plan of redeeming man back to himself and God spoke to Satan that he was going to bruise his head with his seed (Jesus Christ). This was the first mention of the purpose of Christ coming into the world.
ii) Isaiah 9:6-7 Jesus was spoken about through prophesy in the Old Testament. God kept declaring the coming of the one who will save man from their sins and destroy the power of Satan over their lives. iii) Matthew 1:20-23. Jesus had a name that meant he would save his people from their sins. iv) 1 John 3:8, Hebrews 2:14. for this purpose Jesus Christ came to destroy Satan's power over people because he received it from Adam through his disobedience to God. Jesus had to destroy the one who was the God of this world (2 Corinthians 4:3-4. lives of people)
v) Luke 4:18-1 9, Acts 10:38. Jesus came and was anointed with the Holy Spirit to set man free from the bondages of sin and the power of Satan's hold over their lives.
vi) John 10:10. Jesus came to give us life and to give it more abundantly.


2) SALVATION
What Jesus did for each one of us in his death, burial and resurrection. It is called the great exchange, what Jesus became that we would become. Isaiah 53
i) New Birth: 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 3:3. ii) Eternal Life: Romans 6:23
ii) Righteousness: (Put right with God) Romans 3:21-26, 2 Corinthians 5:21.
iii) Blessings: Galatians 3:13 Everyone has a right to be blessed, Physical, Mental and Spiritually because of the Cross of Christ.
iv) Grace: Ephesians 2:4-8, Titus 2:11-14
v) Healing: Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 2:24.
vi) Spirit of God: John 7:37-39, acts 2:33, Galatians 3:14. Jesus obtained everyone’s right to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit through the cleansing of the shed blood of Christ.


3) JESUS’S MINISTRY NOW
i) High Priest: Hebrews 3:1, 9:12-15, 9:25, 10:1-4.
ii) Mediator 1Timothy 2:5, John 14:6. Jesus is the only way to God, he has become the mediator between man and God.
iii) Intercessor: Hebrews 7:25. Jesus is in intercession for each of us before God.
iv) Advocate: 1John 2:1. Jesus is our advocate (representative)
v) Lord and Head of the Church: Philippians2:9-11, Ephesians 1:12-20, Rev 19:16


CONCLUSION: Jesus Christ came to redeem people back unto God the Father, in doing so he became the author of our faith and salvation. He is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings
