The Name of Jesus

FOUNDATION SCRIPTURES: Mark 16:15-20

INTRODUCTION
Jesus Christ died upon the cross to redeem us and in doing so he has now given to the Church (believers) his Power and Authority which is invested in the name of Jesus. As the Church begins to discover that all of heaven’s power is behind that name, then we will see the mighty works of the Lord Jesus Christ be performed upon the lost and needy to bring about their deliverance and salvation from Satan’s hold and dominion over their lives.

1) HOW JESUS GOT HIS NAME
i) Hebrews 1:1-5 Jesus by inheritance got his name from God the Father.
ii) Philippians 2:9-11 His name was conferred upon him by God the Father.
iii) Ephesians 1:20-23, Colossians 2:15, Hebrews 2:14. Jesus achieved his name because of his conquest over Satan and the defeating of the kingdom of darkness.

2) THE USE OF THE NAME OF JESUS
i) Acts 2:21, Acts 4:12, Romans 10:13, John 1:12, Salvation is through the name of Jesus. Anyone has a right to be saved through believing in the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven that we can call upon for Salvation.
ii) Mark 16:17-18. Signs and wonders are administered by the use of the name of Jesus through the lives of his Church (believers)
iii) Cast out Devils- Luke 10:17-19 e.g. Acts 16:16-18 Paul commands a devil to leave a women and the devil has to obey. Demons have to submit to the believer through the name of Jesus. You must use the name of Jesus against demons and their works.
iv) Speak with new tongues Mark 16:17 e.g Acts 2:38-39 The promise of the Holy Spirit is only to those who believe in the name of Jesus Christ for their salvation.
v) Authority over serpents and poisons Mark 16:18 e.g. Acts 28: 1-6 Paul was bitten by a serpent and the people waited for him to die, he shook it off into the fire and the poison never affected him at all.
vi) Healing through Jesus name James 5:14, Mark 16:18 e.g. Acts 3:1-16 Peter said that through faith in the name of Jesus this man was healed, the power and authority of heaven is behind the name of Jesus.
vii) John 14:12-14 Jesus himself taught that he has given us the right to use his name in prayer. Jesus said that greater works shall his Church do because he goes to the Father and we have been given the power of attorney to use his name in his place. Attorney -means the right to act for another in business or legal matters.

CONCLUSION
Every believer has the right to the name of Jesus in their lives, the Church is not lacking in power, it is lacking in the knowledge of what already belongs to them. The bible teaches that every believer has the name of Jesus and no matter what situation they are confronted with they can exercise the name of Jesus Christ and all heaven will back it up in power. The name of Jesus to Satan and his army means their total defeat and their subjection to any believer who will dare to stand up in the name of Jesus and begin to set the captives free who are bound by the devil and deception.
